I want to take my dog to the beach! And let her run free! How can I do that?
We got you. We actually have beaches designed for that. We’re spotlighting Del Mar’s famous Dog Beach. Totally iconic for us!
We love this two-part beach, including the area with the volleyball courts and from 29th street beach on north. North is to the right, as you’re looking at the ocean! Yes, indeed.
What do y’all do with your dogs at Dog Beach?
So glad you asked! Ok, let’s look at Brenda’s sister and brother-in-law. They visit often from Phoenix, and are the forces behind the great art in our cottages. They drive in with their dogs piled up on top of eachother in the backseat. And then they hit the beach every morning.
What do we need to be 100% sure of before we go?
Technically, the leash should be 6 feet. Definitely have a license on your dog’s collar. Scoop the poop, as usual. And just double-check the beach policy, which we’ve made it easy to do below.
Can they be off-leash? When can we all play?
At the time of writing, we’ve broken the city dog beach rules down to make them easier to read. Between June 16 and Labor Day, dogs run free here until 8 am. Dogs can hang out on leashes after 8 a.m.
For the glorious rest of the year, before June 16 and after Labor Day, your dog can run free anytime! They even add extended off-leash morning areas south of 29th street…just head to 29th street before 8 a.m., scope out the scene, and chat with people to get the details. Or thoroughly review the official city dog beach rules if that helps you feel relaxed and knowledgeable!
What about other beaches, beyond Del Mar?
We use BringFido for our own points of reference! And periodically scour other local resources.
Del Mar Dog Beach is really the king place, 5-10 minute walk from our Del Mar spots and 15 minutes’ walk from our listings in Solana Beach.
Why did y’all write this blog?
We care deeply about y'all having a great time, and thus we care deeply about y'all not getting any annoying pet fines or reprimands on your vacation!
